Michael Zahn "Pasta Box"
New Low is pleased to announce a new sculptural edition by Michael Zahn.
Pasta Box, 2024, draws from Zahn’s exploration of travel websites while researching his grandmother’s hometown in NW Italy. This new work, printed on a single piece of paper and folded, gives physicality to these online searches.
Constructed in the style of a fusilli box, Zahn manages to cut a window into an interior space, compelling the work to undulate between product container and storefront facade. For the exterior, the artist was inspired by Italian American menu design. A disproportionate reindeer collar adorns the interior wall - a nod to a hostel decoration once encountered by the artist.
Zahn embraces the limitations of physical mobility, digital design, and quotidian printing processes to introduce a subtle, abbreviated complement to his body of intimate sculptures.
Pasta Box, 2024
4 7/8 x 2 7/8 x 7 1/4 in.
two-sided digital print on cover paper, cellophane, archival double-sided tape, archival glue
edition of 25
